VAT Registration
Starting on January 1, 2018, the Government of the United Arab Emirates introduced Value Added
Tax (VAT) at a standard rate of 5%, applicable to most goods and services in the UAE. VAT
registration is a process of listing the business with the Government.
Once a business is registered, it will become eligible for a VAT return. Businesses will get
registration in the form of a VAT certificate containing a unique Tax Registration Number (TRN).
This number will be essential for all the tasks to be carried out for VAT in the UAE.
Who can or will be able to register for VAT
A business must register for VAT if its taxable supplies and imports exceed the mandatory
registration threshold of AED 375,000 and may choose to register for VAT voluntarily if its
supplies and imports are less than the mandatory registration threshold but exceed the voluntary
registration threshold of AED 187,500.
